Earlier is usually better, especially if cabin location, connecting rooms, suites, or specific dates matter to you. Booking early gives you the best selection without usually giving up the chance at a lower fare later. Many cruise lines allow eligible reservations to be repriced if the fare drops before final payment, and some offer options even after final payment depending on the fare and promotion. For destinations like Alaska, or for smaller ships with fewer cabins, I often recommend booking 12 to 18 months ahead unless you’re comfortable with limited availability and fewer cabin choices. I’d rather secure the cabin you want early and keep an eye on pricing than wait and find the best options are gone.

Expedition cruises are built around exploring remote destinations such as Antarctica, the Arctic, Greenland, Iceland, the Galápagos and parts of Alaska. Ships are smaller and the experience is much more destination-focused, often with expedition teams, Zodiac landings, wildlife viewing and guided activities. They’re a great option if you want to experience places that traditional cruise ships simply don’t reach.
