Southern Sicily: Syracuse, Temples & Palermo
An 8-day small-group Sicily journey from Catania to Palermo with Syracuse, Roman mosaics, the Valley of the Temples and Sicilian food traditions.
Why This Trip Stands Out
This 8-day Sicily trip gives the website a much more regional Italy option than the classic Venice-Florence-Rome route. It moves across the island from Catania to Palermo with a small-group format, ancient sites, baroque towns and food experiences without pushing into luxury pricing.
- Learn to make arancini in Syracuse and enjoy it as a light lunch.
- See Roman mosaics at Villa Romana del Casale.
- Tour the Valley of the Temples with a guide.
- Travel through Ragusa, Marsala, Trapani and Monreale before finishing in Palermo.
- Keep free time in Syracuse and Trapani for optional ruins, islands, nature or hill towns.
Sample Itinerary
Days 1–3 | Catania & Syracuse
Arrive in Catania, meet the group and continue to Syracuse the next day. A hands-on arancini class and orientation walk introduce Ortigia before a free day to explore more independently.
Day 4 | Ragusa, Piazza Armerina & Agrigento
Cross southern Sicily through baroque Ragusa and the Roman villa at Piazza Armerina before continuing to Agrigento.
Day 5 | Valley of the Temples & Trapani
Explore Agrigento’s famous Greek temple complex with a guide, then continue west with a stop around the historic salt pans of Marsala.
Day 6 | Trapani at Your Pace
Keep the day open for Trapani or choose an optional outing toward the Egadi Islands, a nature reserve or the hill town of Erice.
Days 7–8 | Monreale & Palermo
Visit Monreale Cathedral before finishing in Palermo with an orientation walk and time to explore before departure.
